Recent April lessons of the Ukrainian sword-women

From 10th of April to 18th inclusive in Belek (Turkey) the Ukrainian sward-women defended the honour of our country at the World Cadets' championship.

To say the truth, the outcome was not as optimistic as it was expected.

The only one exception was Olga Zadorozhna, a young promising sportswoman, which has very good chances to be accepted for the Ukrainian national junior team. Olga managed to reach the final and take the eighth place in the individual event.

In the final analysis, only Olga Zadorozhna was included in the list of 32 best cadet-fencers of the world.

Unfortunately, according to the drawing Olena Krivitska had to fight with Olga Zadorozhna. I.e., already initially the chances of our young sportswomen decreased because a winner could be only one of two Ukrainian sportswomen.

Deplorable results have been received also in team events. After reaching the final we got a very strong rival, namely the national team of France, the winner of the tournament. Unfortunately, after a not easy fighting we surrendered to the French sward-women, which had a dramatic impact upon further advancement of our national team in the tournament table.

In general, it should be noted that we had very bad sports omens at this tournament, first of all the results of drawing. But, it can be considered favourable for our fencers, too. The victories do never come easily. Just he, who is able to win under difficult and unforeseen circumstances, is a real fighter. From this tournament our national team learned another not quite pleasant lesson that should make the Ukrainian sportswomen stronger with regard to their professional and psychological training. The next European championship that is to be held in November in Czech Republic should show whether the lesson was learnt correctly.
