WONDERFUL MOMENT OF VICTORY

There came to the end a hot sporting summer which presented to the Ukrainian sport many victories. The starts of the World Student Contest became especially successful for our sportsmen in the far Bangkok. The Ukrainian team of sword-women performed well and won the golden medal, and its leader from Lviv, Yana Shemyakina, became the two-time champion of student contests. The Ukrainian sportswomen obtained such result for the first time! What did help the victory of ward the Honored coach of the country Dmitry Reyzlin?

Yana Shemyakina, the winner of the two golden medals: "We prepared very seriously to Bangkok and we were in good shape at the contest. The team was young, battlesome and combative. Girls went out with only one desire – to win! Each of us showed their paces. The most difficult was to fence with teams from Poland and Hungary, and in the finale – with Romanians. We did not surrender to anybody, and made everyone to consider us. And in the personal championship I had luck in winning the first prize, outplaying in the finale Mils Noam from Israel with the score 15:7. Bangkok Student Contest is not the first for me, but I had not such results yet. And, certainly, my trainers and I are glad to have them".

Olena Krivitska, the golden medalist of the tournament in the team event, in the personal championship stopped just near the victory: "For me this was the first Student Contest. I liked everything: performing, collective of the national team, organization of the tournament. At first I worried very much, but my friends and coaches found the words of support. And everything was not bad, on the whole. It is bad that only one touch missed in the quarter-final duel meet with Chinese Tan Li, to come to the semifinal. However in the team tournament we performed worthily".

Olena Reyzlina, one of young winners of the Student Contest: "Certainly, I am not satisfied with my personal performance, because I was eliminated from the fight at the stage of the 1/16 tournament, having got a more experienced and strong rival. A duel was difficult, zealous, I had bad luck somewhere. We felt low. At the beginning of the tournament in the team event we were not favourites. Our rivals were prominent and more experienced. But the inspiration, solidarity and recollection, and also the excellent fencing of our leader Yana Shemyakina had the result of the championship of our national team. Our team was a hard nut, nobody succeeded in splitting it".

– And that do you expect, girls, in the nearest future?

Yana Shemyakina: "The nearest starts are the Championship of Ukraine and at the end of October is the World Cup in Saint-Petersburg. For me there is an exceptionally important start in the city on Neva, where I'll do all my possible to win an olympic license to Beijing. I know that the fight there will be serious, and the competition is extremely tough, in fact the strongest masters of the world fencing will meet on the track. Then there will be other tournaments, but they yield to the World championship in the significance, because it has the highest coefficient: 3".

Olena Krivitska: "I'll take part at the same starts as Yana. At the championship of Ukraine it would be desirable to become one of the three prizewinners. The Saint-Petersburg tournament will become the first adult world championship for me. I look forward to it and feel anxiety. I'll try to perform at a high level. And we will see the result".

Olena Reyzlina: "In the future we have team events at a World Cup. Ouch, it would be great to find oneself there in prizewinners!.. The boys already got on the victory podium, but we cannot succeed in it yet".

Here is the opinion of the chief national coach Dmitry Reyzlin about the performance of the sword-women at the Student Contest in Bangkok. Did it become for him unexpected?

– Yes, such a successful performance became a surprise. From last year's team composition remained only Yana Shemyakina. Having regard to the specified priorities – winning of the olympic license and preparation to the World Cup –it was impossible to require from girls the perfect competition form at the Student Contest. Besides, two girls who fenced, arrived at the Student Contest for the first time, there were Olena Reyzlina and Olena Krivitska. They are newcomers. Especially Krivitska, who came in view of national coaches five months ago. But at the contest in the deciding duel meets Olena contributed much in the victory of the team. When we came to Thailand, I hoped that we would win some medals. So the fact that the team won the championship is a pleasant surprise for me.

– At the end of September in Saint-Petersburg the next World Cup will take place where olympic licenses will be played off. What do you expect from the national team of Ukraine?

– The main task which must be executed is winning of an olympic license. We always make only one aim to the girls, regardless of the team composition: it is the fight for medals! The team does not always win, but always fights. I would be absolutely satisfied, if we won an olympic license (although it is not the last, but a deciding contest), and the team would have medals.

– In what spirit do you meet the youth Golden Gate tournament on a national stadium?

– Every year I wait for it with agitation and warm feelings. It is, maybe, the most difficult area in all my present coach work. Probably it is even more difficult than many other international adults contests. It is a national identity. By this tournament foreign guests conclude about our fencing, about our city, about Ukraine. In fact well-known specialists, coaches and sportsmen arrive to Ukraine from other countries. And we try to do everything perfectly. Trust me, it requires atomical efforts of many people.
